Professor position at Magmas and Volcanoes Laboratory, at
Clermont-Ferrand, France

The Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans seeks to recruit a full professor. The
successful candidate will join one of the Magmas and Volcanoes
Laboratory teams (volcanology, experimental petrology, geochemistry).
He/she will be responsible for projects of international scope in the
broad field of magmas and volcanoes, from source regions in the deep
mantle to volcanic eruptions and associated risks, or in the field of
primitive Earth. The aim is to recruit a scientists capable of
developing a new area of excellence within the laboratory, or
strengthening one of its specialist areas.

The primary vocation of LMV is to develop concepts and tools in the
disciplinary fields of volcanology, petrology and geochemistry, which
make it possible to answer fundamental questions with strong
implications in volcanology and magmatology. These answers are always
structured around cutting-edge technology and/or experimental or
analytical developments. LMV research therefore uses the most efficient
methods and tools from several disciplines of Earth Sciences
(experimental magmatology, mineralogy, petrology, geophysics, isotopic
and elemental geochemistry, materials physics, physical and analog
volcanology, etc) and is based on a large fleet of experimental
equipment and chemical and physical characterizations of rocks and
minerals (see page https://lmv.uca.fr/).

Teaching will concern the Earth Sciences Training at the Observatoire de
Physique du Globe de Clermont-Ferrand (OPGC), at the Bachelor's (L1 to
L3) and master's levels. The candidate will have to teach in French and
English in some of the following fields: magmatic, petrology,
geochemistry, volcanology, geodynamics, field geology, geomaterials and
hydrogeology. In addition to teaching in his or her specialist areas,
the person recruited will be expected to get involved in pedagogical and
institutional responsibilities.

Candidates will be able to apply from Feb. 2025 to the end of March
2025, 4PM Paris time. Interviews will take place in May 2025 and the
position will start in October 2025. However, note that candidates
occupying a position outside of France must go through a national
qualification phase. This qualification phase is done online from
October, 15, 2024 to December, 6, 2024 on the following portal
https://www.galaxie.enseignementsup-recherche.gouv.fr/ensu/cand_qualification_Odyssee.htm

Salary is fixed nationally and depends on the experience of the
recruited person and goes from 3200 € to 6500 € before tax. Salary
includes the classical French benefits package (health insurance plus
retirement).
