Interdisciplinary Investigations of Mantle-Crustal Mass Transfer Abstract: Understanding how the mantle and crust evolve and interact is important for the modeling of Earth's past. We encourage papers on the processes leading to mass transfer between the two chemically and rheologically distinct layers. Rationale: Unravelling the processes that control mass transfer between the upper mantle and lower crust is important for the modelling of the geological evolution of Earth and other rocky planets and protoplanets. Despite the scarcity of field areas where deep lithospheric rocks outcrop at the surface, significant advances have been made in understanding how the upper mantle and lower crust evolve and interact. The aim of this session is to bring together studies from different disciplines to discuss the latest results on the processes associated with the transfer of mass between the two chemically and rheologically distinct layers. Contributions from a variety of fields including, but not limited to, (experimental) petrology, geochemistry, geophysics and planetary science are invited. Abstract deadline: 14 August 2018.
