Postdoc Opportunity: Critical Minerals in Massachusetts Pegmatites

The Massachusetts Geological Survey at UMass Amherst, in collaboration with
the USGS and funded by EarthMRI, is hiring a Postdoctoral Researcher to
study the controls on critical mineral-bearing pegmatites in central
Massachusetts.

Position details:

Focus: Field mapping, geochemistry, petrography, and conceptual model
development

Location: Sterling & Fitchburg quadrangles, Massachusetts

Salary: $63–66k plus benefits and annual raises

Duration: 2 years (with possible extension)

Start date: February 1, 2026 (flexible)

Key skills:

Fieldwork and geologic mapping

Whole-rock geochemistry and petrography (SEM, microprobe)

Strong background in hard rock geochemistry
