Dear GSW Members,

Please join us for the final meeting of 2025 -- the 133rd Annual Meeting -- which will take place at the Carnegie EPL on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025. Refreshments will be served at 7:30 pm and the formal program will begin at 8 pm. This will be a hybrid meeting so you can attend via Zoom (Meeting ID 951 8077 3703). The meeting password is the year of GSW founding.

Also, note that our Fall Field Trip will take place on 12/20 (meet at 8 am at Reston Town Center Metro Station), and will consist of a hike to the Potomac River below Great Falls led by USGS geologist Peter Valley. More information can be found on our websitehttps://www.gswweb.org/index.php/2025/11/25/gsw-fall-field-trip-sat-dec-20-2025/.

Meeting information:

Dr. Vedran Lekić (University of Maryland) will give the Presidential Address entitled "A Tale of Two Worlds: The Core-Mantle Boundaries of Earth and Mars"

We will also vote on GSW officers for 2026. Nominations can also be made on Wednesday, and nominated candidates put on the slate of candidates with the support of 5 GSW members.  Competitive elections are exciting, can reflect an organization's vitality, and offer a way of broadening participation in GSW leadership. Therefore, I strongly encourage you to consider nominating yourself or other GSW members at the upcoming meeting. That said, here is the slate of officers for 2026:

President: Michael Ackerson*, 1st VP & President Elect: Michael Walter*, 2nd Vice President: Stephen Mackwell, Past President: Ved Lekić, Treasurer: Andy Campbell*, Meeting Secretary: Karin Lehnigk, Council Secretary: Beth Doyle*
Councilors:  Linda Rowan*, Ross Solerno*, David Vanko*, Charna Meth, Jamie Allan, Virginia Agostinelli
*Officers and councilors carrying over from 2025
